Ravishing antique French sterling silver Louis XV style chocolate pot , complete with original wooden'moussoir' muddler mixing stick, by the prestigious House of Puiforcat. The body of the pot is chased with a rocaille border and features a splendid asymmetrical cartouche framed by scroll, rocaille, floral and foliate motifs (no monogram). Its removable wooden side handle screws into a very decorative ferrule, The rocaille clad domed lid is surmounted by a finely detailed floral hinged finial, which opens to reveal the aperture for the muddler mixing stick (used to stir and whisk the contents without losing heat). Very finely crafted from the highest quality silver, it is stamped with the French Minerve 1st standard silver mark.
950 on body and lid, and carries the maker's mark and signature for celebrated silversmith Emile PUIFORCAT , active in 1857. Professionally cleaned by our Parisian silversmith, condition is excellent with only light signs of use to note, and the wooden handle and muddler are perfectly preserved. Measures 8.8" (22,5 cm) high, 9.25" (23.5 cm) wide with handle, and has a 3.9 (9.8 cm) diameter.
