Prior owner kept these tables in very good condition (the table top was kept under glass). A fine Louis XV style inlaid parlor tables from France. Elegantly sophisticated, finished in Rocaille taste. Having elaborately hand carved walnut with beautiful color and patinas. With shell and scroll hand carving motifs.
Gracefully rising on long slender cabriole legs with acanthus leaf carved knees, ending in whorl feet. The shaped top has marquetry inlays of stunning contrasting woods. The large inlaid marquetry top is lavished with multiple species of wood inlaid into Parkayed woods to create creative wreath designs and foliage, a real wow!
The exacting science and art of marquetry still is practiced today in only a handful of places in France and Italy and it is indeed amazing to ponder the difficulty and level of expertise required to produce such stunning works of art entirely from wood!
