Pair Large Antique French Chateau Gilt Bronze Candle Wall Sconces Louis XV - Rocaille. Acquired in Central France recently, this pair of sconces are fine quality, well made, substantial & weighty. They're well cast in solid bronze & have a rich gilt finish. The back plates are very decorative, there are motifs of fish tails, fruit, stylised shells, acanthus leaves and a central fleur de lis. At the base of the plaque is a figural head, again decorated ornately with acanthus leaves as a head-dress.

The candle sconce arm itself projects from the head as an acanthus stem and scrolls terminating in an ornate floral nozzle and drip pan. They look to be c1900 in date, possibly late 19thC, they are as originally intended, candle sconces, but could be electrified if preferred - I could undertake this for you, it would be done sympathetically, with e14 bulb holders & faux candles as well as cloth covered twisted flex.

Each is 42cm high overall x 20cm wide. Each projects 19cm from the wall. Reply as soon as possible.
