Today we are pleased to offer for sale a stunning pair of antique French ormolu candelabra! This gorgeous pair of candelabra dates from the late 19th century. The pieces are of very high quality and craftsmanship and finely crafted and detailed, and made of cast bronze ormolu. The set is done in the lavish and ornate Louis XV Rococo revival style, so popular in the Gilded Age.
Each candelabra features a beautiful rococo rocaille base with whirls and whorls and leafed detailing. A charming putto, standing atop each base, holds a leafed branch which supports the three upper candelabra arms, done in exuberant Rococo swirled style, with rocaille decorations, leafed bobeche and very ornate candle-cups with removeable drip nozzles.Each candelabra features 13 individually-cast sections that compose the whole, which indicates the high quality of the set. The putti feature exquisite and crisp detailing. The pieces still retain their original gilt ormolu finish, albeit patinated with age and use. The set will add old world grandeur and opulence to any fine interior! The pair presents well and is in good antique condition, with minor display wear and patina commensurate with age.
The candelabra have no damage, cracks, or repairs. The finish has scattered tarnish/darkening, oxidation, patina and loss to gilding. There is minor wax residue in each candle-cup. Dimensions/ea: 15.5" in height, 8" in length, 5 in depth, approx.
