Restored 19th Century French clock made from parts of a Mobier (Comtoise) clock. I have used the original high relief, stamped brass bezel and porcelain dial to create a stunning wall clock. The bezel has been sprayed a bright metallic gold to prevent tarnishing.

The pattern features several stylized elements: foliage; a vase and flowers; cornucopias; palmettes; all topped by a representation of Louis XIV (the Sun King) in the center of emanating rays of light. The dial is a work of art in itself: glossy porcelain on metal with thickly painted Roman numerals.

The name of the clockmaker "Gaspard Fehrenbach" and "Nevers", the city of manufacture, are represented in a beautiful script. It is in superb vintage condition with hardly any signs of age except for a few hairlines. A new, battery operated quartz movement (AA cell included) has been attached in back with antique style metal hands. The clock measures 15 3/4" tall by 9 3/4" wide by approximately 1 in depth. There is no crystal so the beauty of the depth and design can be more easily appreciated.

The clock is very light weight and can be easily mounted on the wall with just a nail by using the triangular metal loop attached to the movement. One could also screw the clock into a wall using the existing two small holes on either side of the top half of the facade. This is a fabulous design and I have the exact same clock in my home.

Morbier clocks were made in France from the late 17th Century to the early 20th Century. They were tall, standing, wood cased clocks with mechanical movements that utilized gears, weights, and pendulums. For reference, the last photo attached is of a complete standing Morbier clock. My photos do not do this fabulous wall clock justice. Please be sure to add me to your Favorite Sellers list.
