Henri Louis Levasseur was a French sculptor best known for his Art Nouveau depictions of historic figures, mythological figures such as Diana (1900), and religious themes. His sculptures are composed in a realistic manner, often including painstakingly detailed, draped fabrics that appear to be captured mid-movement. Levasseur learned sculpture from Augustin-Alexandre Dumont, Jules Thomas and Eugène Delaplanche. He was a teacher of Ernest Justin Ferrand, Julien Prosper Legastelois, Claudius Marioton and Augustine Simonet. His work has received several awards, including at the Salon des Artistes Français art exhibitions of the Société des Artistes Français. His Art Nouveau bronze and stone sculptures were featured in all the leading French exhibitions of the time.
