A pair of vintage French, gilded wall sconces. Ribbon, rose and flower basket leaf motif. Louis XVI in style but dating to the 20th c. Vintage French wall sconces are.

And recently sourced from a top French specialist dealer. They date to the late 20th c. Harks back to the decadent days of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette in France.

Towards the end of the18th c. They take their inspiration from the. Flowing floral and ribbon Rococo.

Motifs much favoured by the. Rococo, of course, an exceptionally ornamental and theatrical style of architecture, art and. Decoration , combining asymmetry, scrolling curves, gilding, sun-burst detailing and sculpted moulding to create surprise and the illusion of motion and drama.

These sconces may have been moulded in resin, but they share the same visual impact as antique, hand-carved wood and gilded gesso. Original wiring and light fittings still attached. EASILY REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH CANDLES IF DESIRED.
