French 19th century pot-bellied tripod Pitcher or Creamer marked with the Paris "1st Standard" Hallmark indicating 95% silver purity (higher than Sterling). Original fine-grained dark hardwood handle; possibly ebony as this wood was often used for similar pieces. The piece is on the larger side for a creamer. The stylized feet with "toes" matches other pieces of this era as well. More definitive identification is difficult as the maker's mark is too worn to read, though the purity mark is still clear.

This particular purity mark indicates 1838 or later. Because of this piece's high silver content it gleams with great lustre, but the metal is somewhat softer than Sterling. It has no visible scratches but has acquired a few small dents, mostly on the bottom. Careful inspection shows one side looks to have sustained a 3 cm around dent that has been hammered out and not too obvious upon first inspection, but we disclose it here for transparency.
