An incredible genuine Louis XVI period French, solid 18 carat gold ring, set with seed pearls around a fabulous strong, deep and rich yellow natural imperial topaz. The stone's bright yellow colour is deeply saturated, perfectly matching the gold of the ring and reminiscent of a late summer wheat field and the foil behind creates a mirror back that gives vivid flashes that catch the eye from any distance - a distinct and valuable feature of genuine topaz. This miracle on the finger dates from the late 18th century and is really a substantial presence, which belies its delicate style. With deep hand chasing flowing down the shoulders, the taper to the back of the band is a perfect ratio with the flare of the shoulders, and the two sizes of millegrain highlighting around the stones is perfectly judged.

With the initials'MS' ornately engraved to the back, this treasure displays its rich history proudly. It dates from the late 18th century and is in very good, fully wearable condition throughout, with possibly one or two replaced pearls.

The thick mercurial high-carat gold finish has worn at a few points to the back of the band and the shoulders, this is normal and not readily noticeable. The ring tests very well for solid 18 carat or higher. There are one or two very shallow scratches to the stone - again these are in line with its age and not easily noticeable during wear. It weighs 6.4 grams, measures 13 mm across the head and its ring size is 10.5 US / V UK - not very easily resized due to its thickness.
