The cutwork elements in the middle feature stylized dolphins, a boy carrying a bird's nest, a girl carrying fruit and accompanied by a dog, and plants and arabesque designs. The two handles are in the form of swans. The lid has a statue of Bacchus crowned by grapevine leaves and seated on a wine barrel, holding a cup in one hand and grapes in the other. The interior glass container is in hand cut crystal. The French hallmarks used for articles made outside of Paris between 1819 and 1838 appear in several places on the piece.

This piece is in very good condition with the exception of faint scratches and tiny dents, a slightly deeper scratch on the top of the lid, a dent on the edge of the lid, a slight misalignment in the cutwork elements on the base, and a tiny chip on the bottom of the crystal container which is not visible when the container is in place, all commensurate with normal use and very great age - this piece is between 180 and 200 years old!
