Antique French Louis XVI solid bronze acorn finial andirons with an adjustable fender. For thousands of years, however, fires were lit on the ground using kennels and, later, also with a basket.
What is the purpose of this? First, a brief history of the kennels and fire baskets. The first kennels or chenets were found with the Romans thousands of years ago. They usually consisted of a single stem or a single block with one or two elevations.
This allowed better air circulation to the wood and the fire remained in its place. Since the sixteenth century, kennels are used in pairs, which greatly improves their function. During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the design of the kennels was more adapted to the practical needs of cooking in and around the fireplace. In addition, the decorative kennel appeared, both in the kitchen and outside. These antique French Louis XVI solid bronze andirons (chenets) are exquisite pieces that reflect the elegance and grandeur of the Louis XVI era.
