Antique French Queen Marie Antoinette Miniature Portrait Painting Ormolu Box

  

Today we are pleased to offer for sale a beautiful antique French miniature portrait box! This exquisite piece is finely crafted and detailed and done in the Louis XVI style. The box is made of gilt bronze ormolu and features a round frame adorned with high relief neoclassical appliqués interspersed with rosettes. The lid is adorned with delicate neoclassical appliqués and ormolu beads, and features a lovely round portrait of Queen Marie Antoinette. The painting is very finely executed abd depicts the Queen wearing a pale blue dress with lace trim, 2 strand pearl necklace, her fanciful hairdo adorned with a large feathers.

The portrait is protected under a thin glass cover. It is signed by the artist. The interior of the box is richly upholstered with royal blue velvet.

This lavish box will make a wonderful addition to any collection! The box is in good antique condition, with minor wear and patina commensurate with age and display. The ormolu surface has minor wear, tarnish and a few darkened spots.

The lining is in good condition; the lining on lid is present but loose and needs to be reglued in place. The portrait has some wear, losses to finish and fading. Dimensions: 3-3/4" in diameter, 1-1/4" in height.
