Antique French, Luxury and vintage doghouse / dog bed, Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, 19th. Exceptional dog kiosk in the style of Marie Antoinette. Rare French work of the 19th century Louis XVI style, architectural form, it is surely a special order. Large on the reverse side of the usual small dog niche, this beautiful piece with classic architetcure takes the form of a gazebo or kiosk, shaped dome supported by fluted columns. From a large house in the Paris region , it was found in an outbuilding, cleaned and reclaimed with a striped fabric matching the blue-gray color of the wood, we can easily imagine that this pretty bed was placed in a beautiful living room.
Mainly in beech and fir wood, molded and carved, the top forming a bud is carved wood on a metal rosette. The painting has many wear and tear visible in the photos, which does not detract from the charm of this beautiful piece of furniture or its authenticity.
"The very term" niche appears in the inventories in the seventeenth century. We previously preferred that of chest and dog crate. Rare are the copies of dogs niches of the eighteenth century that we have reached.
A small piece of tapestry and not cabinetry, with a wicker structure or wood covered with fabric and provided with a mattress. The niches can adopt several forms (bed, dome, stool or bench) depending on whether they can accommodate one or more dogs. Simple carpentry cases or more comfortable models whose upholstery was entrusted to the care of master upholsterers, they adopt the aesthetic canons of Louis XV or Louis XVI styles.
