A fabulous antique French, solid 14 carat gold locket brooch. With a halo of superb pastel blue & white enamelling interspersed with tiny rose-cut diamond points in typical French'bague au firmament' style, ie within a ring of silver points, its original and deeply rounded glass locket contains a woven hair memento - easily changed out by a jeweller if desired. It dates from around 1770 and is in very good, fully wearable condition, with scratches to the glass.

Originally a bracelet or choker clasp, its pin fittings are very old replacements. It weighs 10.2 grams and measures 1.25 x 0.75 inches. The final photo shows it with a US penny (1 cent) coin for scale, which measures 19 mm / ¾ of an inch diameter.
