I can't totally make out the artist's signature, even enlarged, but it seems to me it is dated 1838, Louis-Philippe era, and the gentleman's outfit seems consistent with military uniforms of that time. A nice capture of this gentleman's likeness. I'm always a little fascinated at how much detail the miniaturists could accomplish in such small space. The face is only 7/8, chin to hairline (beyond bangs), and yet we see his 5-o'clock shadow, bristly brows, intelligent eyes and a tiny bend to his nose. Full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, there are no hairlines, chips or flaws notable on the old painting. It remains perfectly protected beneath the original convex cover glass and the old French wood frame also remains very nice. Ready to hang or add to your collection. We're easy to deal with.
