Antique French Lantern Toleware Louis XIV style Golden Crown top octagonal
Amazing Louis XIV style Tole ware electrical French lantern dating from the late 19th century early 20th -The main body has 8 glass panels top and bottom all the edges of the panels are bound with metal. One of the panels open with a clip catch to facilitate changing of the bulb (which is a standard bayonet fitting). It is constructed of a sheet metal - which was all gilded initially - the gilding has rubbed in many places on the light - but we love this aspect - it somehow adds to the style and makes it so very unique - emphasising its antique origins.
The top of the Lantern carries the most beautiful crown like embossed top- which meets at a ceiling rose with an oversized toleware loop - from which to hang - this could be hung directly on a ceiling hook - or could be extended by a chain - or a draping cable. The bottom of the lantern is finished with a shaped and sectioned finial. The lantern has been completely re-wired - it was on the original - early 20th century wiring. And is fully working - we always recommend that any vintage lighting is checked in the Country in which it is intended to use - as different Country's have different requirements. Takes one central bulb - bayonet fitting.
Condition - The lantern is in good antique condition - all the glass is original and is undamaged - the original gilding of the metal of the lantern is rubbed in areas (Please do check out the photos they are there to give you a clear indication of the item and condition).
