Today we are pleased to offer for sale a beautiful antique ormolu potpourri lid! This gorgeous piece dates from the 19th century and is of French or English origin.
The lid is very finely crafted and detailed. It is made of gilt brass with lavish ormolu finish. It features a round domed form, with intricate reticulated foliate designs adorning the exterior of the lid. The designs are done in the Louis XIV style and are further enhance with delicate etched details. The top features a small pull finial.The interior of the cover is flat and also reticulated, and features a geometrical gradient pattern. The piece is marked "Y 313 EP" inside. This cover was most likely used on a large piece of ornamental porcelain for use with potpourri or scented oil. Additionally the cover can be used as a flower frog. The piece will make a great addition to any collection!
The lid presents well and is in very good antique condition, with very minor wear and patina commensurate with age and use. There is minor surface wear, light scuffing, and a few very minor scratches. No dings or dents noticed. 3" in height, 8-5/8" outer rim diameter, 7-3/4 inner rim diameter.
