The more you look, the more you see. It reads "déposé" twice (registered) on the brass.
This bee hive and sunburst face design are extremely rare! The history goes that the clock belonged to the bee keeper of the chateau where we bought it. The enamel clock face has the name "Dubernat" and the town "Valenciennes" (north of France). The brass has a lovely warm patina.
The chime bell is on top and is made of metal, it has a warm sound. The original winding key comes with this clock, (you can see it on the clock in 1 of the pictures). The clock works, it runs and strikes, please take a look at the short video. It will be good to have a revision in a clockshop. Please note that the clock has no weights and no pendulum!!The clock can be opened on both sides. In a good condition: as shown on the pictures, there are a few scratches to the enamel, some pits and dents to the brass, a tiny hole in the nose of the sunburst face, some wear to the patina of the metal, the inner rope cords have been replaced by newer ones, this does not detract from the beauty of this original clock!
Total sizes of the clock: 16 inches high (40cm), 10 inches wide (25cm), 5.6 inches deep (14cm). There is a small hole on the top of the backing, so you can hang it on the wall. A very elegant and rare piece which would add that typical French home decor touch to your home.
Much prettier in reality than on the pictures, believe me! Enamel, metal, brass, iron, cord.
