Antique C1890 French Amethyst Handcut Crystal Perfume Bottle St Louis Baccarat

  

This is definitely European with the extra deep flared collar, similar to those designed by St. Louis and Baccarat in the early Art Nouveau period. The panel cut neck, the intricately cut body and the pave diamond cut base are all more signs of the quality. It is unsigned except for a number 12 just inside the top rim.

(See photo #5) Note that the written number 2 is of the french style. The hand cutting workmanship is outstanding and precise -by a master! The colour is rare -a dark amethyst to grape. The stopper is clear hand blown crystal which was common in that period and it fits perfectly. The interior of the rim is lightly ground for a secure airtight fit with the ground stopper.

The condition is antique perfect, no cracks, no repairs. There is one tiny ground nick on the flared collar and minor nibbles. I can find no rough nor sharp spots otherwise. Size: About 4" in height, 1 5/8" across the mouth, 3 across the base. It weighs 7.79 oz.
