A fine and obviously important French gentleman from the Louis XV to Louis XVI era, powdered wig and blue top coat, striped vest. A painting linking us in time to the time in French history out of which grew the French Revolution. I found him in France, was drawn to his clothing, pose, and his pale amber eyes.
Frame is 3 1/4" x 2 5/8" and the painting is 2 1/2" x 2" oval. His face is only 1/2, chin to hairline. Very good to excellent condition for age and type.
As you can see, the painting has either gotten smaller in the 250 years from some shrinkage, or perhaps always was mounted with a slight space. That is sometimes seen in Eastern European miniatures from the era. It is not broken nor chipped, no cracks or hairlines.
A fine image in gouache on thin wafer, convex cover glass still fully intact and in place. We're easy to deal with. Our fine inventory is very important.
