1820-30s French miniature painting, a portrait of a gentleman in high color and coat of his time, still housed in the 18k gold locket frame pendant. The gold has been tested, confirmed 18k solid gold. The locket is one that has a lock of his hair showing on the backside. Such a time in history, and this gentleman is certainly one who might well have played a role in those times of such change and upheaval in France.

We can only guess at his story, however, since we haven't a name nor even the artist's signature to help with research. These portrait miniatures were worn on a long gold chain, or sometimes a black silk ribbon if the loved one herein was no longer alive (in mourning).

We have many images of the portraits being worn and add one here to show you how this one might also have been worn as a pendant. One can hang it, as well. I have several vitrine tables into which mine are lain in display - some of my favorite antique collection items. Very good to excellent condition, the 2 panel of slightly convex and polished glass are each in very fine condition. The painting is also perfectly preserved as you see it, and I don't think this one has been opened up at all.

We didn't want any chance taken of leaving marks or breaking something. The lock of hair saved in back will be what remains of the handsome gentleman whose portrait was so well taken here. The measurements are noted on the photos - please look there.
