Antique LOUIS AUGUSTE MOREAU French Spelter Statue Signed France Art Nouveau
Up for sale is an antique Spelter Statue of a Woman done by Louis Auguste Moreau. It is a beautiful casting and she is displayed in a very nice pose. It is signed on the base by the artist. There are a couple of issues with this item. First, the arm is broken off, but this would be a relatively easy fix if you have the know-how. The second is that there are two pieces that have been shaved off on her left side as seen in the photos. From the metal exposed here, she might even be made out of steel, which indicates that this is not an original casting but perhaps a reproduction. Please keep this in mind with the price point I have listed. I have seen his work go for very high before, so that is why I've priced it low.
Louis Auguste Moreau born, was a French sculptor best known for his bronze-cast figurines. His allegorical Art Nouveau works often depicted women, children, cherubs, and historical figures adorned with floral motifs and ornaments, and were influential to other artists working at the time. Born in Dijon, France in 1855 to a celebrated family of sculptors, including his father, Auguste Moreau, he went on to regularly exhibit his work at the Paris Salon from 1861 on.
The artist died in 1919 in France. The statue measures in at 13 3/8 tall. It is heavy, weighing in at 3 pounds, 10.2 ounces total. Any questions just ask, thanks for looking!
