Presenting an exceptional French 19th C miniature piano for your pleasure. The scene on the top of the cover shows a young gentleman serenading the young lady. A group of young ladies probably her hand maidens, are watching as he plays his cello for her. Around the sides are all different putti figures each playing an instrument or feeding the Doves, climbing a tree or cuddling on a bough. This is a stunning kiln-fired piece with enamel plaques that cover the entire piano even inside the lid as you will see in the photos. This piece emulates figures in the era of Louis XVI & Marie-Antoinette. The years and years of labor and intensive practice, just to attain such a high quality porcelain and fine craftsmanship. The powders used to produce such fine and varied colors of porcelain, that once fired become something so vastly different and yet so magnificent, was a true art in itself. So it would have been, to say the least, an exceptional and confident artist to worked literally blind, as far as color and design to believe he could achieve such a marvelous piece of art work.

It is the memory that guides the hand in this art. Just imagine the tedious process, that is such a big part of the reason why these old kiln-fired objects have such a huge following and bring such commanding prices. Then as an added bonus, it was made to be musical.

Unfortunately through time it appears to have been over wound and so it no longer plays its tune, but a reliable repairman could get this up and running for you if you choose to? You will notice also that the top rises up and has a gilt rod that supports the cover. Inside of the lid is another lovely courting scene as they dance and the chaperone watches on. This is lined in a red velvet material and is in very good condition. A porcelain cover lifts up to expose the keyboard with its black and white keys and behind it is a lovely porcelain scene with flowing ribbons and a central floral wreath between two trees.

There are no hallmarks on this but we know it is probably an unmarked French Viennese enameled Piano form music box, in exceptionally fine, to excellent condition for it age. The artisan's skill is immense. There are no flaws to note except as previously mentioned with the sound and the framework that holds the enamel is also very fine and undamaged. This piece has been treasured, not abused or miss-handled. No chips, no cracks in the enamel.

A superb piece for your collection or ideal for a little girls doll house. This piece measures 5.5" long front to back x 3 5/8" wide side to side x 3.5 high top to bottom and weighs 11lbs 7.2ozs.
