Antique French Louis XVI Empire Neoclassical Bronze Brass 12-Light Chandelier

  

This stunning 12-light fixture is in the late Louis XVI neoclassical style, with influences of the later Empire period. The chandelier measures 25" in height altogether, and 20.5" in diameter. Currently the fixture is used with candles; the candle cups are filled with soft plaster to hold thinner candles, but the plaster is easy to remove to insert thicker candles.

At one point the fixture was electrified as there are remnants of electrical wiring inside the arms. Would look wonderful restored and re-electrified, or can be used with candles and with the patina preserved. In very good antique condition, with wonderful time-earned patina and minor wear from use. Today we are thrilled to be offering for sale a fabulous antique French bronze chandelier! The fixture is expertly and intricately crafted and cast in bronze.

The crisp and precise detailing is superb. The chandelier features 12 arms with neoclassical acanthus leaf detailing. The center shaft is supported by an urn with a bottom finial, and crowned by a capital. From the shaft there are cascading acanthus leaves that are topped by caryatids and roll onto the lower tier of arms. The crown of the chandelier features two intricate levels and the fixture is hung from a large loop.

This piece is very special because of its' smaller size, which is ideal for the homes of today. This elegant chandelier recalls the work of Richard Mique, Queen Marie Antoinette's personal interior decorator. A similar chandelier hangs in Marie Antoinette's Le Cabinet Dore at Versailles (see last photo).

Includes some heavy antique chain (not original but a good replacement). This chandelier was removed from a mansion in Providence's East Side. Fresh to the market, a piece not to be missed! Item(s) will be professionally packed to prevent damage in transit.
