Antique French Louis XVI Empire Ebony Wood Ormolu AR Ladies Glove Box Casket
Antique French XVI 2nd Empire Ebony Wood Ormolu AR mono Ladies Glove Box Casket. Today we are delighted to offer for sale a beautiful antique French wood and ormolu ladies glove box! Dating from the late 19th century 2nd Empire period in France, this elegant box was used to store a lady of means' fine (most likely silk) gloves. The box, in the Louis XVI style, is finely crafted and detailed of ebonized black wood, with low relief carved geometrical arabesque details picked out in gold. The top of the box features a center concave medallion with the initials "A R" in fanciful script.
The interior of the box is beautifully veneered in exotic soft woods. The box presents well and is in good antique condition, with minor wear and patina commensurate with age and use. The lid is slightly warped and does not completely close; the corners have minor stable splits and repairs. Add French Victorian elegance to any fine dressing table accoutrement with this lovely box, which would also make a great gift to anyone with the initials A. Dimensions: 1-1/8" in height, 9-3/8" in length, 3-3/8 in depth.
